Acute Nausea and Vomiting

Types of CINV

There are 2 main types of CINV:

  • Acute: Within the first 24 hours after treatment.
  • Delayed: Up to 5 days after chemotherapy.

The timing of nausea and vomiting is not the same for all chemotherapies. Some people may get both acute and delayed nausea and vomiting, and some may get only one or the other.

That's why it's important to speak to your doctor before chemotherapy to determine your risks and treatment options.

Get treatment before you begin chemotherapy

  • Having nausea and vomiting in the first cycle of chemotherapy can increase the likelihood of having it in future cycles.
  • Preventing CINV is often easier than stopping it once it's started.
